Dr. Jeanne Salcetti and her administrative staff are not just good, they’re THE BEST we’ve ever experienced. Believe me when we say we’ve experienced it all when it comes to dental work and related services. Radean and I both have spent our careers for the U.S. Army. This work took us to Korea, Germany, Thailand, Washington DC, Texas, Indiana, Hawaii, Japan, and now Colorado. We’ve been treated by almost an uncountable number of both military and civilian dentists, never had we experienced such professionalism and concern as with Dr. Salcetti and staff. They are truly models of perfection that others in the profession should strive to emulate. Dr. Salcetti, we salute you and your staff! – Nolan & Radean Brown

When Should You See a Periodontist?
Your regular dentist refers you to a periodontist if they notice any issues with your gums during a regular cleaning. In addition, see a periodontist, like Dr. Jeanne M. Salcetti, DDS, MS, whenever you have problems with loose teeth, gum recession or missing teeth.
Do you Need a Referral to See a Periodontist?
No, you aren’t required to have a referral to see a periodontist, unless your insurance requires it of course. However, many patients are referred to periodontists by their dentists after they have seen them for an issue that is best handled by such a specialist.
What Does a Periodontist Do?
A periodontist is a specialist within the dentistry field, trained to recognize and treat dental problems associated with the jawbone or the gums surrounding the teeth. The American Dental Association recognizes periodontists as one of the nine specialties in the dental field. If you require any help with the tissues surrounding your teeth, such as the gums or your jawbone, you see a periodontist.
The name periodontist comes from the greek words ‘peri-,’ which means ‘around‘ and ‘odont,’ meaning ‘tooth.’ A periodontist, like Dr. Jeanne M. Salcetti, DDS, MS, goes through regular dental school and then continues their education for another three years. This is where they learn all about periodontal conditions and perfect the methods of treatment.
Does a Periodontist Perform Root Canals?
In general, periodontists don’t perform root canals. In some cases, you can let your regular dentist perform the procedure. However, if there are any complications or you would rather have a specialist to complete the process, you should see an endodontist. They are the dental specialist who are specifically trained to perform root canals.
Does a Periodontist Place Crowns?
A periodontist doesn’t typically place crowns. However, they do lengthen them. When a crown sinks below the gum tissue, it makes it impossible to clean the area or replace the crown. The crown lengthening procedures changes the tooth-to-gum relationship, allowing you to clean your crown or have it replaced.
Does a Periodontist Place Dental Implants?
Yes. Periodontist do surgically place dental implants. In fact, it’s one of their most specialized services. Dr. Salcetti has had extensive training in dental implant surgery, also known as implantology. This means she is aware of any breakthroughs in treatment options that could be implemented.
Does a Periodontist Extract Teeth?
Yes, we perform tooth extractions. We also typically add bone grafts to the sockets to help preserve the bone for future implants.
Does a Periodontist Fix ‘Gummy Smiles?’
Yes, periodontists are experts at fixing ‘gummy smiles.’ This is a condition where the gums come up too much on the teeth, making them look short or unattractive. Dr. Salcetti is specifically trained to repair the gummy smile look among other specialty procedures.
Does a Periodontist Repair Receding Gums?
Yes, periodontists are trained in treatment of the gums and bones surrounding the teeth. They often treat the problem of receding gums. In fact, it’s one of the many specialties of Salcetti & Associates.
Other reasons you might seek The help of a periodontist:
- loose or missing teeth
